POP participation to the HPC3 round-table @ EuroHPC Summit Week 2022

Sunday, March 20, 2022

POP was present in the CoEs round table discussion organised by HPC3 during EuroHPC Summit Week on March 22, 2022 in Paris, which was moderated by Edouard Audit (HPC3 chair / EoCoE). In addition to POP, the CoEs Excellerat, EoCoE, Max, NOMAD, Esiwace, CHeeSE, Hidalgo and BioExcel were present at the round table. The subject of this round table was "Give feedback about CoE work across different scales of HPC systems, not just the highest end (Exascale)".

As a transversal CoE, POP provides numerous services and deals with applications coming from all types of stakeholders: academics, research institutions (including other CoEs), large industrial customers as well as SMEs, from all business sectors with applications belonging to all levels of the HPC pyramid and covering more than 20 European countries. The mean scaling range of the applications analysed by POP experts is of few thousands cores and this range is increasing compared to the first phase of the POP CoE. Almost 10% of the analysed applications use more than 10,000 cores in production. The largest analysis conducted by POP used a machine with than 300,000 cores.

As POP, we believe that all levels of the HPC pyramid should be considered important; the real needs of users depend on the means at their disposal and their costs.
