POP partners attended and particpated in the EuroHPC Summit week (EHPCSW) 2019 in Poznan, Poland, from 13th to 17th May, 2019. The event is co-organised by PRACE, EXDCI-2, ETP4HPC, and the EuroHPC JU. The conference is a great opportunity to network with all relevant European HPC stakeholders, from technology suppliers and HPC infrastructures to scientific and industrial HPC users in Europe.
POP coordinator Prof. Jesus Labarta from BSC gave a talk and participated in a panel at the Co-Design Workshop organized by the European Commision. In the talk he presneted his personal view about software aspects on the road to exascale in Europe. In particular, he highlighted the importance for EU developers of components of the software stack having demonstrated technical competence/quality and commitment to bring forward their developments as components of a vertically integrated software stack that should be integrated as part of the pilot calls in preparation by the EC. We believe that the POP tools are at the appropriate level of maturity and commitment form the developers to certainly be part of that SW stack. He also highlighted the importance of the training on best practices as we are doing in POP.
Finally, he presented his vision on what co-desing means and highlighted the importance of understanding fundamental patterns, metrics, and methodologies applicable across a very wide range of applications (rather than just co-designing for a single application). He stated that POP has a work package gathering such holisticand general insight that we get from our studies in a page that could be navigated by designers to get useful information for their designs.
In addition, POP partner IT4I presented the POP CoE in the poster session.
