From January 20 to 22, Barcelona hosted the HiPEAC 2025 Conference, bringing together over 800 attendees for the 20th edition of this flagship event in High Performance, Edge, and Cloud Computing. As part of the conference, POP3, in collaboration with several EuroHPC Centres of Excellence (ChEESE, ESiWACE3, MaX, MultiXscale, and SPACE), co-organised two full-day workshops:
- From Petascale to Exascale and Beyond: the Centres of Excellence Challenge
- Tackling Software Exascale Challenges: the Centres of Excellence in High-Performance Computing Perspective
These workshops were designed to foster meaningful exchanges between the CoEs and the wider HPC community. They featured a rich agenda of keynote talks, technical presentations, and panel discussions. Topics ranged from transversal research and project highlights to collaboration strategies, emerging technologies, and real-world HPC applications. In total, 11 out of the 12 currently active CoEs contributed, alongside other key European initiatives such as EPICURE, CASTIEL2, and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.
Audience engagement was high throughout the two days, with 25 to 30 participants attending each session and actively participating in vibrant, thought-provoking discussions.
POP3 was represented by Marta Garcia-Gasulla, who presented:
- “POP3: Lessons Learned and Challenges Discovered from Assessing European HPC Codes”
- “Co-Design: From a Buzzword to Reality – An EPI Success Story”
Additionally, Brian Wylie contributed with a talk on “Experiences in Training and Collaborations Between CoEs,” sharing valuable insights from cross-CoE efforts.
These sessions not only highlighted the collaborative spirit of the HPC ecosystem but also underscored the importance of co-design and community building as we move further into the Exascale era.
